The following Monday

Well the rally is over and it was an enjoyable time. There were friends there that I've known for several years (notice I didn't say old friends) and new ones. The new rally attendees said they had a good time so that's always nice. The weather couldn't have been better, no rain and temperatures in the 70-80 F. Plans are being made to meet up again next year when the rally will be in Great Falls, MT.

Steve and I headed towards Iowa to visit our parents and thought we would split the 675 miles up into 2 days but the weather was very pleasant and the miles slipped by easily so we ended up doing it in 1 day. We arrived at a reasonable time of 9:30. I'll be here for the better part of the week and then start the trek back home.

Wednesday

Arrived at the rally site at 11:30. Several folks were here already as some of them arrived yesterday. I got my tent setup and changed into shorts. We found the beer tent later in the afternoon and after some food we ended up back at the K1600 tent for varied conversation. Bed time came after 10:00. The rally officially starts Thursday with vendors and seminars in full swing.

Tuesday

Another cool day of riding making it to Memphis by 5:00. Two other K1600 riders, going to the rally, were at the motel before me. We went out and had some Memphis BBQ then back to the motel for a beer and some motorcycle talk. We should arrive at the rally grounds in Lebanon, TN by noon tomorrow.

Monday

I awoke at 3:30 am feeling rested so I got up and was on the road by 4:00. It was a cool ride with temps at 41 F in Flagstaff and the low 60s the rest of the day. I arrived in Elk City, OK at 7:30 their time (835 miles). I received a text towards the end of the day from Visa asking if I made some large purchases in Odessa, TX. Of course I hadn't so they shut that card down. I have a MC back up and cash so I'm still in the game. I had them send my new card to my parents and I'll pick that up when I see them nex week. Another not so early morning tomorrow but only a 590 mile day.

On the Road Again

I leave in the morning for the BMW MOA rally in Lebanon, TN. The plan is to ride to Elk City, OK Monday then Memphis on Tuesday and reach the fairgrounds early Wednesday. I will be riding alone the first 2 days and then meeting a couple Arizona riders in Memphis for the last days ride.

After the rally I'll ride up to Cedar Falls, IA to spend time with my folks and friends. I'll post pictures as something worthwhile occurs. Thanks for following along.

Most of us are back home

Jerry and Rick are in Medicine Lodge, KS visiting Jerry's brother Bob. I guess they had rain and hail getting there and then spent some time in a basement waiting out tornado warnings.

Norm made it back to Silverthorne, CO after riding through rain and snow (yikes)

Kevin had a few hours of rain getting home.

Haven't heard how Greg's return trip went but he left a day early to avoid rain so I'm thinking it went OK.

Frank and I hit rain the first day of our return trip then on the second some hellacious cross winds from Gallup, NM to Flagstaff, AZ. I then rode through heavy rain for about 30 miles before the weather let up and I got home dry. Frank had a few sprinkles on his way from Flagstaff to Phoenix.

Steve was another story, I guess he had a grueling 4 hour ride in dry weather.

We all had a good time in Arkansas with some fantastic rides on "steep and crooked roads" The weather while there was very nice but the not so for the rides in and out of the state but hey that's motorcycling isn't it.

Until the next trip thanks for following along.
Jim

PS: I rode 5,708 miles

The last day together

A short ride ride today that took us through Rogers Arkansas where we stopped at the Daisy Air Rifle museum. From there we stopped to see an old grist mill and then back in Eureka Springs we took a trolley to town for lunch. Now back at the motel we are lounging around. Greg and Norm headed home today the rest of us in the morning.

Another nice day

205 miles of 75deg. sunny weather and great roads to ride. We rode the Pig Trail which is well known here in Arkansas. A little nap when we got back and a belly busting Italian dinner to cap off the day.

Hump Day

We moved camp to Eureka Springs and a nice but small motel. Walking distance to restaurants a liquor store and laundromat near by, the boys are happy. Weather was great again as was the 200 miles of crooked roads.

More pictures from Fish Tuesday

This morning these fish were swimming and having a good time.

fishing day

Rick, Greg and Steve went on a successful guided fishing trip. The rest of us had another great day of riding. We got to ride on a ferry across Bull Schoals Lake.

They caught 10 more after this picture

The next day

We had a perfect weather and riding day. Lots of winding hilly roads. Out of the 277 miles we had maybe 5 miles of straight roads. We stopped mid-day in Jasper, AR for lunch at an over 100 year old cafe and arrived back at the cabins around 4:30.

Mothers Day

The weather turned decent today so we went for a 140 mile ride. Along the way I started to lose air in one of my tires. When I got back to our cabins I sat on the ground with soapy water and found a small shard of metal stuck in the tire. After a couple tries and LOTS of  supervision I think I got it plugged.

Days whatever

All except Greg have arrived at the cabins in Mt. View, Arkansas. Greg had water in his basement so couldn't leave until today but he arrived before dark. Another wet day of riding although it stopped when we arrived here and is supposed to be dry the next several days, we'll see.

Day 10 &11

I met up with Steve at a campground near West Plains Missouri where we will hang out until Saturday. Steve’s been fishing which is one of his favorite pastimes lately. I’m relaxing and doing a little riding mostly to be able to find cell service so I can do these postings. Sad I know. It’s been lightly raining today and will probably do that for several days.

Day 9 museum day

I spent 5 hours today at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. Steve and I had been here in 2012 but it's well worth multiple visits so I worked it into this trip.
Here are pictures I took at the museum, I'm glad we don't use film cameras anymore as it would get expensive.
