Day 11

This was our last day of riding and it brought us back home. It was our longest day with 431miles. No exciting sights to take pictures of. This trip ended up being 3,350 miles long. We had good weather and saw some beautiful scenery and rode some great motorcycle roads. It was a relaxing trip with 3 good friends. Until next time thanks for going along via this blog.

Day 10

We landed in Durango this afternoon after another great day of riding in the Rocky Mountains. Hwy 133 from Glenwood Springs to Paonia and then 92 down near the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Then Montrose to Ouray. The ride south out of Ouray is my second favorite Scenic section of the country. We didn’t stop in Silverton this time. We’ve all been there so many times before we decided to keep going on to our motel in Durango.

Heading out at 0 Dark 30 in the morning

Day 9

Last night one of the K1600 forum member, Erick Eiland, met us at the motel where he got a room too. We went to Texas Roadhouse for steaks. He rode with us today up and over Rocky Mountain National Park before peeling off for home in Parker, CO.

An early start this morning 6:46. We needed to get to the entrance of Rocky Mountain Park before 9:00 so that we didn’t need a reservation. It was pretty chilly but I had my heated gear on. On the way down the West side it started to get windy and got worse after leaving Kremling all the way to I-70. Then a traffic jamb on I-70 held us up with slow stop and go traffic for a long time. Finally got to Glenwood Springs  around 2:45.

Day 8

A lonely ride across Wyoming but it was nice mot to have hardly any traffic to deal with. No breakfast places so a donut at a gas stop had to suffice. We stopped for gas in Laramie,WY and while under the pump canopy it started to rain and hail. It didn’t last long so we waited it out. Once back on the road it looked like rain ahead so we stopped to put our rain gear on. As usual the clouds parted and we didn’t get rained on the rest of the ride.

We got our motel in Fort Collins around 2:30 and are settled in. One of the K1600 forum members, Erik Eiland from Parker, is going to check in also and ride with us part way tomorrow.

There was a Point of Interest along the highway today a house made from dinosaur fossils.

Day 7

Today we rode through a bit of the Black Hills area in South Dakota. Had a nice breakfast at Perkins in Spearfish. Then rode hwy 14a, 385,44 and 16. These roads took us down Spearfish Canyon to one of planet Earth’s many Bridal Veil Falls. We were stopped in the road by a group of Mountain Goats. Then we rode past Mount Rushmore, on the Pig Tail bridges and Needles hwy. We didn’t stop much for pictures because we all have been here many times.

Spending the night at the Sage Motel in Newcastle, WY.

Day 6

Another nice ride through East Wyoming. Frank stopped to mail a post card in a small post office on the side of the road. He then found a point of interest called the spotted horse. We took a quick look see of Devils Tower on our way to Sundance, WY where we are spending the night. Only one place in town for supper but it’s right across the street so no riding tonight.

Laundry night too so an exciting time for all.

Day 5

Today was a nice 192 mill loop ride out on hwy 14 through Shell Canyon where we stopped to see the Shell water falls. Then on to Dayton, WY where I had a piece of cherry pie alamode and the other guys had ice cream. We turned around at Dayton and cane back on hwy 14a.

Jerry stopped at the grocery store to pick up fixings for beef stroganoff. We all brought back a large portion of our prime rib from last night that we’ll cut up and add to the stroganoff.

Day 4

We road to Cody then up over Chief Joseph hwy and Beartooth Pass. Along the way one of the K1600 Forum members (RatTrap) saw us so we pulled over and had a nice chat. I had not met him before but he reached out to me last week when he figured out that the 2 of us might meet each other on Beartooth.

I have ridden Beartooth at least 5 times now and it’s the first time I didn’t see any snow along the road but it’s also the latest time of the year that I’ve been on it.

We had Prime Rib for supper at the hotel restaurant. Then hit a couple bars in town.

Day 2

We are settled in at our motel in Vernal, UT. Great roads ridden today. A couple construction zones but not too bad. After they opened our lane and we passed all the traffic ahead of us it was smooth sailing for a lot of miles.

Pictures below are on the Escalante highway and Bryce Canyon always a treat to see and ride.
